In 2013, Jennifer Frederick from the Yale Center for Teaching and Learning joined with physics faculty members Dr. Rona Ramos and Professor Simon Mochrie to establish Phys 530. This course has been designed to prepare graduate students and postdocs in the physical sciences to become Scientific Teaching Fellows.
Students who enroll in this course will develop competence and confidence as instructors. The course covers the fundamentals of learning theory and practical strategies for teaching in the physical sciences. Students practice teaching scientific concepts, managing classroom dynamics, and implementing strategies for effective and inclusive teaching. During the second half of the course, students apply these principles as they develop and evaluate instructional materials for a college level science course.
