Dr. Miller will describe his physics career through undergraduate and graduate schools, 5 years in the semiconductor metrology industry to his current position with the US Department of Energy’s Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). He will give an overview of R&D work across the DOE’s National Laboratories and at the NNSS, including basic research, applied physics and engineering physics projects that are crucial to DOE’s mission.
Dr. Miller received his Ph.D. in physics from UC Santa Barbara in 2000, and then went to work for Veeco Metrology Group developing applications of atomic force microscopy for semiconductor manufacturing. Since 2004, he has worked at the USDOE’s Special Technologies Laboratory (STL), affiliated with the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). He leads efforts in high-bandwidth signal recording, optical sciences and remote sensing in the DOE and with other government customers.
