Francesco Iachello received the 2010 Somaini Volta Prize, was elected to the Mexican Academy of Science, and was awarded the 2010 Enrico Fermi Prize from the Italian Physical Society

Francesco Iachello  (J.W. Gibbs Professor of Physics and Chemistry)

1) has been awarded the 21st Somaini Prize in Physics for his discoveries on advanced algebraic methods as a means of attacking problems relating to atomical and molecular structures.

The award ceremony was held in Como, on January 25th, 2010.

The Somaini Prize is awarded every three years by the City of Como to prominent Italian physicists. Since 2003 the Prize is administered by Centro Volta.

2) was elected to the Mexican Academy of Science (Academia Mexican de Ciencias).

3) was awarded the 2010 Enrico Fermi Prize from the Italian Physical Society.

Citation (Nuclear Physics): For his contribution to the theory of atomic nuclei and, in particular, for the discovery of a rich variety of dynamical symmetries and supersymmetries.
