Event description:

Much work has been done on the strong interaction of matter and light in photonic resonators. In this talk, motivated by such work in cavity QED and the recent success of realizing exciton-polariton condensates in cavities, I will outline some of the interesting phenomena that can occur when superconductors are coupled to cavity photons. I will particularly focus on a scheme whereby superconductivity can be strengthed by coupling to photons and in analogy with exciton-polariton formation the creation of hybrid objecs formed from photons and superconductor collective modes.
