Event description:

In April of 2021, the muon g-2 collaboration announced the results of its first, 463 parts per billion measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, based on data taken at Fermilab in 2018. The new result confirmed that of the Brookhaven experiment (1997-2004) and maintained its long-standing tension with the theoretical prediction. The collaboration expects to release its next result, on a four times larger data set, in the summer of 2023. I will explain how the measurement is made, survey some of the systematic errors that must be overcome and provide a brief status report and outlook.
