Event time:
Saturday, October 14, 2017 - 12:00am
Location:
Sloane Physics Laboratory (SPL) See map
217 Prospect Street
New Haven, CT 06511
Event description:

This event is free to all registered participants. Teams must consist of 4 currently enrolled high school students and a teacher/coach. Space is limited to 50 teams, so if you are sure you can field a team, register early to ensure a spot. Team members and coaches should be able to attend the entire event which lasts from 8:30am to about 4:00pm. While this is a competition, it is friendly and accessible to all students. We make sure everyone has fun with physics!

The YPO takes the form of a pentathlon where each event consists of a task or simple experiment which the students perform as a team to generate a result. One of these events is always an order of magnitude estimation quiz. For each event, performance is ranked and prizes awarded to the best 3 performing teams. There are also awards for the top three teams with the best performance over all 5 events. Spirit prizes for best costume/T-shirt design and best team name are awarded too!
