Event description:

I will discuss the Schwinger model, i.e. 1+1 dimensional QED, in its lattice regularization with staggered fermions. I will show that the lattice fermion mass should not be identified with the continuum fermion mass, but they are related by a mass shift. This follows from requiring a (anomalous) discrete chiral symmetry for the massless model. I will show how numerical results improve greatly once this mass shift has been taken into account.
