John Harris recognized for mentorship by American Physical Society

John Harris, D. Allan Bromley Professor Emeritus of Physics, and a member of Yale’s Wright Lab, is the 2024 recipient of the American Physical Society (APS) Division of Nuclear Physics (DNP) Mentoring Award.

Harris’ citation reads: “For his unwavering commitment to the professional and personal development of his mentees throughout their careers and dedication to fostering a supportive work environment that values diversity.” 

Harris has been a professor at Yale since 1996, with both Emeritus status and a Research Professor appointment since 2021. His research focuses on understanding high energy density quantum chromodynamics (QCD) created in relativistic collisions of heavy nuclei.

Harris said, “My students and postdocs are like family to me. Their curiosity and creativity are infectious and contribute to our overall development. It has been a real pleasure experiencing the excitement in learning and the growth that I see. I appreciate this award for doing something that I love.”
