Shany Danieli (Yale Ph.D. 2020) has won the dissertation award in Astrophysics from the American Physical Society

Shany Danieli who received her Ph.D. in physics December 2020 has won the 2021 Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin Doctoral Dissertation Award in Astrophysics from the American Physical Society for the thesis topic “Clues to the Nature of Dark Matter from Low-MassGalaxies Beyond the Local Group”. During her time at Yale Danieli did her research under Pietr van Dokkum in the Astronomy department.

Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin Doctoral Dissertation Award in Astrophysics

This award recognizes doctoral thesis in research in astrophysics, and encourages effective written and oral presentation of research results.

The award was established in 2013 by the Division of Astrophysics (DAP) as the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award in Astrophysics. In 2018 it was renamed for Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin, and generously endowed by the Heising-Simons Foundation.
