Welcome Justin Lane (Mossman Fellow)

September 15, 2021

Welcome to Justin Lane who comes to us as a Mossman Fellow working in the Atomic Physics Group with Jack Harris. His research at Yale is focused on studying the dynamics of non-Hermitian systems near higher-order exceptional points. These systems are created and manipulated in the lab using several coupled mechanical modes of a “membrane-in-the-middle” cavity optomechanics setup.

Lane completed his PhD at Michigan State University under the guidance of Prof. Johannes Pollanen, where he did experimental work studying the interaction of superconducting quantum circuits with superfluid helium and surface acoustic waves. During his time at MSU he also conducted experimental work studying acoustically pumped charge transport in exfoliated graphene. Outside of physics, he generally enjoys being outside (running, hiking, biking or simply going on long walks.)
