Ian Billinge. Looking at the effect of soaking iron particles in hydrochloric acid on iron-liquid metal suspensions, one sample reacts fully, leaving this vivid green residue of FeCl_{2} crystals. -
Ian Billinge. We can see the difference between suspending pristine iron particles, the right hand sample, and iron particles soaked in hydrochloric acid, the left hand sample, in gallium-indium alloy. The non-soaking sample has a beautiful luster and a mirrorlike surface, while the soaking sample is appears dull and grainy. -
Lauren Chambers. This picture was taken from the 3rd floor undergraduate lounge in Sloane during a women-in-physics-260 study session. I love the sky, the snow, and the beautiful New Haven cityscape. -
