Faculty position in experimental quantum science

The Department of Physics at Yale University invites applications for a faculty appointment in the area of experimental quantum science. Applications will be considered at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Full Professor level.  Quantum science and engineering is one of five top priority areas identified in the University’s Science Strategy Report, and we have a vibrant and expanding community in the Yale Quantum Institute and described more broadly at Quantum at YaleYale is engaged in a campus-wide investment in quantum science, engineering, and materials; we are conducting at least four current searches in this broad area across a range of departments, and expect to conduct additional searches in this area in future years.

The areas of interest for this particular search include but are not limited to quantum condensed matter experiment (CME), atomic/molecular/optical (AMO), quantum information science (QIS) and development of quantum-sensing techniques for application to fundamental measurements in other areas such as biophysics, nuclear and particle physics.

The successful candidate is expected to initiate a vibrant research group, be an interactive member of the Physics Department, and contribute to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  We are especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. To promote diversity, the Department welcomes applications from women, persons with disabilities, protected veterans, and underrepresented minorities.  Applicants must hold a Ph.D in Physics, or an equivalent degree, at the time of the hire.  The anticipated start date is July 1, 2020.

Applicants should create a profile in Interfolio and upload a cover letter, CV, a statement of current and future research plans (up to 3 pages), a teaching statement (up to one page), a diversity statement (up to one page), and up to five reprints of papers published or in press.  In addition to applications we also welcome nominations for the position, which should be directed to the email address below. Assistant professor candidates should arrange for three referees to upload letters of recommendation by the due date. Applications that are complete by November 22nd, 2019 will receive full consideration, but review of applications will continue until the position is filled.  Please address questions and nominations to PhysQuantumSearch@mailman.yale.edu or to Prof. Bonnie Fleming.
