Rick Casten has been awarded the 2011 Tom W. Bonner Prize in Nuclear Physics by the American Physical Society.  The Prize was established  “To recognize and encourage outstanding experimental research in nuclear physics, including the development of a method, technique, or device that significantly contributes in a general way to nuclear physics research. “  Rick’s citation reads:  “For providing critical insight into the evolution of nuclear structure with varying proton and neutron numbers and the discovery of a variety of dynamic symmetries in nuclei.”

The Tom W. Bonner Prize was endowed in 1964 as a memorial to Rice University physicist Tom W. Bonner by his friends, students and associates.
