Welcome Kana Sakaguri, Postdoctoral Fellow

June 11, 2025

Yale Physics welcomes Kana Sakaguri, a new postdoctoral fellow and member of Wright Lab who is working with Laura Newburgh.

Sakaguri is an experimental astrophysics & cosmology physicist who will be working on 21 cm cosmology. Sakaguri is a member of the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME). Her focus is on analyzing the visibility data while understanding the instruments for CHIME.

Sakaguri received her Ph.D. in 2025 from the University of Tokyo under the supervision of Akito Kusaka. As a graduate student, she developed optical elements, particularly anti-reflection coatings, for ground-based cosmic microwave background experiments: the Simons Array and the Simons Observatory. During her Ph.D., she worked on deployment, observation strategy, data transfer, calibration, and data analysis for millimeter-wave circular polarization searches of astronomical sources with the Simons Array experiment.
