Graduate student Morgan Knuesel from the Wright Lab Relativistic Heavy Ion Group (RHIG) was recently elected as the junior representative to the Diversity Office of the ALICE Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
The Diversity Office advises members of ALICE on diversity issues and promotes diversity initiatives within the collaboration and the broader CERN community. In her role as junior representative, Knuesel will represent the 826 juniors in the ALICE collaboration. The junior membership consists of Bachelor’s, Master’s and, Ph.D. students; as well as postdocs who are within five years from the date of their Ph.D.
Initiatives of the Diversity Office include coordinating leadership and teamwork training workshops for ALICE members, analyzing and presenting demographic information, and providing resources to discuss diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Knuesel said, “I’m very honored to take on this role and represent my fellow juniors in ALICE! We all know research works best when diverse groups of people can work together, and everyone feels welcome.”
Knuesel continued, “I love engaging with the human aspects of physics research and am very passionate about making physics accessible to anyone who wants to do it, so I’m excited to help promote these values within such a large collaboration!”
