Dissertation Title:
On Dyonic Black Holes and Cosmic Censorship
Dissertation Abstract:

In this thesis, we construct two thought experiments to test the Cosmic Censorship Conjecture, attempting to overcharge and/or overspin a critical four-parameter (the usual three of mass, electric charge, angular momentum plus magnetic charge) black hole.

The first is a generalization of a previous thought experiment where Wald tried to give the critical black hole extra charge and/or angular momentum by letting it swallow particles. We generalize this thought experiment to cover the possibility of magnetic charge, both on the particle and the black hole. The second is a new thought experiment where we feed charge and/or angular momentum to the black hole via a Klein-Gordon field. In both cases, we find that the Cosmic Censorship Conjecture can not be violated.

To be able to do the calculations for the second thought experiment, we separate the Klein-Gordon Equation on this black hole metric. We also separate the Dirac Equation, and investigate the effects of the black hole’s magnetic charge on the ergosphere and on superradiance.
